Narrative of NYC Place

I am the Flatiron Building. I am shaped like a triangle, as designed by Daniel Burnham, and built in 1902. I was passed down through several owners, beginning with Mr. Eno, the creator of the 5th Avenue hotel. Eventually I was bought by George A. Fuller, the “father of the sky scraper”. I wasn’t always considered beautiful. Though I was seen as some by an awkward travesty, I attracted tourists for miles. An incredible amount of artists took interest in me, because I seemed like an iconic piece of America and the progress that the city had been making. During my early years, I was the housing place for a large screen on which to show images of things like advertisements, images of the city, and announcements. On election night, thousands of people would gather by me, to await the results.

It is said that my shape created different wind tunnels around me, causing the wind to flow in awkward directions. This unusual gust of wind that would travel up 23rd street caused women’s skirts to fly around as they walked alongside my base. It was so horrendous, the city sent police officers to guard this area, just to be sure that the boys wouldn’t harass the women walking around. Today, I am a spot for tourists, but I am mostly an office building. I hold a few different publishing companies. The impact that I had on the world around me was immense. To this day, I’ve been used for movies, commercials, and documentaries. I’m an easily recognizable symbol now. During the movie Godzilla, I was destroyed by the US Army while in pursuit of the monster (I’m glad that it was just a movie!). I make for a beautiful photograph. Maybe you’ll come check me out someday?
